How to handle your vehicle around wildlife – An important aspect of self-drive in Africa is safety and behaviour around wildlife. Don’t underestimate these apparently docile creatures, particularly elephants. They can turn very quickly if inadvertently aggravated. Do a Google search and see some horrendous videos and images of vehicle being flipped by elephant tusks. We don’t claim to have any real expertise here, but we did read-up on this and highly recommend that you do too before heading into the bush on your own.
